Hello gang,
Just a heads up… with the school kids on break, there’ll be no indoor pickleball at the Gleason Family YMCA this coming week.

That said, there are still 2 spots available for noon-3pm 60+ Advanced and Advanced Intermediate Tuesday 20 Feb at Southcoast Pickleball in Fairhaven, and a bunch of open play spots available all week at Pickleball & More, Dartmouth, at all skill levels. Come on out and give Southcoast and P&M a try!

If you haven’t signed up yet, the Gleason Family YMCA Shamrock Slam Advanced Indoor Round Robin Tournament is filling up fast. When I checked yesterday, I was excited to see several Southcoast greats signed up to do battle… the Wonder Twins, Lynne and Lee… The Mountain… Guns… Chuckles… Michael “Back Breaker” Sadeck… defending YMCA Champion Mark “Rope a Dope” Robidoux, Lisa “Shake & Bake” Orlando, Paulo “No Relation” Brito, “Sly” Sandy Edgell, and Katie “The Fighting” Frink. It’s sure to be an exciting and historic event!

Sham Slam is Saturday morning March 23rd. Local prize sponsors include Southcoast Pickleball, Pickleball & More, Lucky Goat Brewery, Blue Foot Cafe, and Jess “The Pickleball Professor” Rego. Come on out and join the fun!

Hi gang! Well, winter isn’t stopping pickleball action in New England and some neat pickleball competitions are breaking out all over the Buzzards Bay area this month and next…

This Saturday, Pickleball & More in Dartmouth is hosting two advanced Super Bowl Mixed Doubles Round Robin Bracket Challenges. The 4.0+ crowd will be battling noon to 4pm followed by the 3.5 - 3.99 cohort playing 4-7:30. Some great and fun players have signed up and spots are limited. Get in while you can!

If Geritol is your adult beverage of choice, Southcoast Pickleball in Fairhaven is drawing a spirited crowd of old-timers “aging defiantly” every Tuesday noon-3pm in the 60+ Advanced and Advanced Intermediate open play. It’s a good group. Check it out if you’re old enough and good enough!

Keep an eye out, too, for more River events at Southcoast. They’re a blast! Last week our very own Sarah “Fighting” Frink skirmished her way to the top court, onto the podium, and took home a generous gift certificate for her victory. Her humble partner, Ray Lawton, gave the rest of us a clinic in backhand brilliance…

Feb 19th, “Jimmy G” Gage will be holding court at Southcoast, blasting all comers who dare to join in during the 4.0 Men’s Bracket Challenge. It’s filling up fast, so grab a wicked good partner and sign up for your chance to face Jim’s G Force!

And, last but not least, registration opens this week for the long-awaited Gleason Family YMCA Wareham “Shamrock Slam” advanced (3.5+) round robin doubles tournament. The Wareham Gleason Fam Sham Slam is 9am-1pm Saturday March 23rd. $30 for Y members, $35 for non-members. Proceeds support the Y’s pickleball program.

This fast-paced, fun YMCA tourney is being generously sponsored by the Blue Foot Café (thank you, Katie!), Lucky Goat Brewery (thank you, Kendall, Aaron and Caitlin!), Southcoast Pickleball (thank you, Adam!), Pickleball & More (thank you, Donat!), and Jessica “The Pickleball Professor” Rego (thank you, Jess!) The prize table will be overflowing with generous gift certificates from our sponsors and our top 3 finishers will haul away hardware for their medal cases back home. Only 16 slots for this fun event, so get your slot soon!

FYI:
There was a notice up at the Y today that there would be no pickleball February 19-23. School is out that week. Gee, you'd think the Y was for kids or something!
Likewise, I have learned that there is no pickleball there on the second and fourth Fridays of each month due to a conflicting program.

Denise

This happened to me also. I went on the Y’s Full Plate Project’s Facebook page and they list the following: Gleason Family YMCA, every 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month: Feb 9 and Feb 23. So Pickleball is cancelled on those days of the month. The Y also has a poster on the wall in the gym with dates. However, there are so many cars /players for pickleball, (think of it: 16 players at a time on the courts and many waiting in the bleachers) that parking is a big issue. And the Plate Project has over 25 cars also. Anytime I go to the Y, the parking lot is full on regular days. I really don’t think the Y can accommodate everyone on these Full Plate days.
